The statement appeared the day after Ellen Lord sent letters to Deputy Heads of Procurement and Logistics Support for EU institutions in a number of European media, in which she expressed US concern about the expansion of military cooperation in the EU within PESCO, which leads to "unjustified dispersion of funds and duplication of functions NATO".
"The EU Council calls on all member countries (the PESCO program) to make active progress in fulfilling a growing number of legal commitments aimed at bringing their defense systems closer together in order to enhance the overall development of military capabilities in Europe," the EU Council said in a statement.
