The state, located in the interval between sleep and reality, jeopardizes a person’s perception: in a trance, the mind is most vulnerable to suggestion. Vigilance is lost, and responsibility falls entirely on the interlocutor, who decided to take advantage of the situation. Since a person is put into hypnosis, what methods are there and what is important to consider when immersing? Is the process itself really safe and how is it useful?
Science of hypnosis
There is a terminology that is used to describe the state of total absorption in consciousness.
- Hypnosis. A relaxed, focused mood that a person achieves in the phase of fatigue or drowsiness.
- Hypnotism. The process used to induce a trance state. Typical induction of such immersion may include clear breathing, closing the eyes, and reciting a countdown.
- Hypnotherapy. Refers to the use of trance as a therapy. Trained professionals help patients achieve self-improvement goals through suggested mood.
Experienced scientists belonging to the latter category know how to introduce a person into hypnosis imperceptibly, since they have boundless experience behind them. The technique is based on the subject’s trust in the interlocutor, a vulnerable state. It is enough to make sure that the person is relaxed and monotonously tell a fictional story. You can’t raise your voice. The peculiarity lies in the fact that a character with his name must be present in the story, and events must be confused, knocking down concentration. Thus, the actions of the hero of the story through the listener’s sleepy veil will be reflected in his future decisions in real life.
Hypnotherapy: taming the unconscious
Going into a trance can be thought of as meditation with a set goal ahead. They have similarities in achieving a specific goal: to relax and concentrate on rest. - Guided hypnosis. A pre-recorded trance immersion session is applied. Audio includes an introduction, steps and suggestions for specific conditions.
- Clinical hypnosis. Used only with a specialist in person or by video link.

The method of controlled breaths is typical for meditation, but it is effective for mild forms of self-hypnosis. You will need to adhere to the sequence:
- Close your eyes and sit up straight in an open position.
- Breathe deeply through your nose.
- Slowly and calmly count to a hundred.
The person will be in a trance, and if nothing works out, the exercise should be repeated.
The technique is used as a broad metaphor, allowing you to change the perception of lived experience in consciousness. For example, a client wants to lose weight, but he lacks willpower, so he gave up and prefers to play on the computer. Reframing, introduces a person into hypnosis, as a virtual character at an unconscious level. The specialist asks how much time is spent on the game, listens to the story about the process of “pumping”. After that, there is a rethinking and indirect comparison with a real person.
Losing weight is similar to improving your character in video games, as it requires diligence and daily practice. At the beginning there is not much difference, but over time the stats become stronger.
Plunging into a state of trance is safe and useful for correcting mental characteristics, defects and getting rid of phobias, bad habits and fears. It is important to keep in mind that practice and regular training are required before applying the techniques. There are many paths to the unconscious and there are no wrong ways to get to the truth.
