Many homes are equipped with stone ovens, which require regular maintenance to operate safely.
A stone oven requires special attention. In a house without other sources of heating, a stove is a strategically important object, even a small malfunction of which can cause irreparable damage not only to the house, but also to your health. If the stove smokes, first inspect the masonry. Most likely, cracks appeared in it. You can cope with the problem by covering them with clay solution. Small cracks are rubbed with it, which do not affect the operation of the furnace, but spoil its appearance. There are some recipes for solution preparation.
Maintenance and repair of stone ovens
The easiest is to mix clay, river sand and water. The proportions will depend on the fat content of the clay. As a basis, you can take the ratio of clay and sand 1: 1. Water is added to obtain a plastic mass. You can check the quality by rolling a ball and throwing it on the floor. If cracks appear on it, you need to add clay. So that small cracks do not appear on the dried solution, salt is added to the finished mixture (300 g per bucket of solution). The learned putty is insisted for about 12 hours. and only then can it be used.
A better solution will be obtained from a mixture of two parts of sand, one part of clay, one part of lime and 0.1 part of asbestos. Lime can be replaced with cement in the same proportions. A similar recipe for putty is to mix one part of gypsum and sand, two parts of lime and 0.2 parts of asbestos. Before adding to the solution, all components must be sieved, and the clay must be soaked for a day. The putty is prepared in small portions. This is especially true for plaster mixes. Such a mass will be plastic in only 5 minutes. If you use cement, the working time is increased to an hour. Lime is introduced into the mixture with already diluted water.
Before covering up the cracks, they need to be well cleaned and widened. It will not be superfluous to prime the surface. If no primer is used, the area to be treated is moistened and rubbed over. To prevent cracks and cracks from appearing again, the stove can be tiled with special tiles. Such a coating will preserve the integrity of the masonry for a long time. If there are a lot of cracks in the masonry, a wire tie will help to save the stove.
It can be used to strengthen the furnace frame. To do this, in each horizontal row, a groove is grooved about 2 cm deep. A wire is laid in it along the perimeter of the furnace, fastened and tightened by twisting it. Naturally, in this case it is impossible to leave the stove without finishing, therefore the final stage of the repair work will be its finishing – plastering or tiling.
The stove can also smoke because of a loose firebox door or a blower. Most likely, to dismantle and strengthen it, you will have to disassemble part of the masonry. But this is done as a last resort. A simpler option is to cover up the resulting cracks using a sealant. Ordinary clay mortar will not work here.
For such repairs, it is necessary to use chamotte clay (3 parts), cement (1 part) and fine sand (10 parts). Water is added to obtain the consistency of liquid sour cream. A little heat-resistant glue can be added to the finished solution. Before proceeding with the putty, the surface should be well cleaned of dirt and treated with a primer. Next, a heat-resistant sealant is placed in the slots, on top of which a clay solution is applied. After such a repair, the stove can be heated no earlier than in a day.
If the stove not only smokes, but also ignites badly, remember the last time you cleaned the chimney. It is recommended to do this at least twice a year. To begin with, you should try simpler options, for example, throw a handful of rock salt into the furnace while the wood is burning. In this way, it is convenient to clear light blockages. Thus, it is possible to “add some salt” to the wood not only to clean the chimney from soot, but also to prevent its formation.
Aspen firewood will also help prevent the appearance of soot cork. The temperature during their combustion is so high that the blockage simply burns out. If the stove is finished with tiles and minor damage has appeared on them, the problem can be solved without dismantling the finish. Small cracks are simply enough to cover with alabaster or alabaster-chalk mortar. You can also use a mixture of crushed chalk mixed with raw egg white. It is important to monitor the condition of the furnace foundation. Any of its movements can lead to the formation of through cracks. published by econet.ru
