No matter how hard the builders try, all the same, seams are formed between the slabs lying next to each other, and in the worst case, also the height differences between them. Previously, this problem was practically not solvable, but today, in the world of advanced construction technologies, it can be solved in no time.

There are two ways to get rid of the annoying look of the seams between the slabs on the ceiling – to seal them in the most natural way with the help of dry building mixtures, or simply mask them with plasterboard and other suspended structures. We, of course, will consider these two options, but first we will deal with the simplest and cheapest way – a simple embedding using cement-containing mixtures. The advantage of this technology lies not only in simplicity and low cost – it is a completely reliable way to solve the question of how to seal the seams between floor slabs? Naturally, it will be such only in case of strict adherence to the technological process. And it looks like this.
- To begin with, we qualitatively clean the seam from all layers – as a result, a clean concrete slab should remain. In general, if you plan to completely putty the ceiling, then you need to clean it over the entire surface – the more carefully you do this, the more confident you can talk about the durability of the finished ceiling. You need to remove everything, including whitewash, dust and small chunks of concrete.
- Primer. You understand that you cannot do without it. And here you need not a standard deep penetration primer like Ceresit CT17, but a concrete contact primer – if we talk about the same Ceresit, then this mixture is marked as CT16. It contains quartz sand, which ensures a very reliable adhesion of surfaces to each other. Such a primer is applied with a brush – with its help the seam is covered only inside and along the edges by ten centimeters. It needs to be rubbed into concrete, as it were. After application, the concrete contact should dry thoroughly – at least 6-10 hours.
- Further, to resolve the issue of how to seal the seams between the tiles on the ceiling, you will need ordinary tile adhesive – you need to prepare it in a thick consistency. The mortar is pressed into the joint and left alone until it dries completely. One small nuance should be noted here – it is not worth applying the tile adhesive to the seam with a tubercle. Firstly, these are unnecessary irregularities in the process of filling the ceiling and, secondly, this is wrong from the point of view of technology – there should be little room for the next layer of material.
- After the glue has hardened, a wide serpyanka mesh is applied to the seam – a standard 50mm wide roll will not work here. At a minimum, you will need reinforcement with a width of 150-200 mm – it was for it that concrete contact was applied a little earlier at the edges of the seams. Serpyanka is glued in the standard way – first, the place of its gluing is covered with a thin layer of mortar, and then the mesh is pressed into it. The tile adhesive used in this case must literally penetrate into every cell of the grid. Again, you need to take care of the high-quality removal of excess adhesive – simply put, they need to be removed with a spatula.
Basically, this is all technology. After the seam dries and acquires a natural light gray color, it is again opened with a primer (this time the standard CT17 is used), after which the ceiling is putty. First, the starting putty is used to level the common plane, and then the finishing putty, whose tasks are the final leveling of the surface.
Another answer can be found to the question of how to seal the seams between floor slabs. Quite often, polyurethane foam is used for this purpose, with which the seam itself is filled – after it dries, the junction of the plates is pasted over with a wide serpentine, after which the ceiling is completely putty. You can also view the use of a material such as PSUL (Pre-Compressed Sealing Tape) for sealing as another option.
The technology is exactly the same – first, the seam is compacted, and then its reinforcement and putty. The disadvantage of these methods of solving the question of how to seal the seams between the slabs on the ceiling is fragility – especially for foam, which tends to collapse over time.
Subtleties of masking seams between floor slabs using suspension systems
Agree, it is very tempting to close the old unsightly ceiling with one movement of your hand, pulling a modern stretch ceiling on it. In one fell swoop, a lot of issues are solved – these are the seams between the plates, and the appearance of the ceiling itself. It is for these qualities (the ability to level and create a beautiful surface) that stretch ceiling systems are valued – even drywall, which needs to be brought up to condition with putty and painting, cannot be compared with them.
There are not too many such technologies that allow you to quickly and easily solve the issue of sealing joints on the ceiling. To be more specific, there is only one, which we are talking about. In addition to her, there are other options – they, of course, are less effective, but, nevertheless, they cope perfectly with the tasks of masking the seams between the floor slabs. These technologies include almost all types of suspended ceiling systems.
- Plasterboard ceilings. With their help, you can close both the entire unsightly surface of the ceiling, and individual, especially problematic places, by inscribing them into any pattern or complex structure of a multi-level ceiling. In extreme cases, the seams can be simply pasted over with curly plasterboard elements, thereby creating a structure on the ceiling.
- Plastic ceiling. Naturally, it is not suitable for all rooms – for example, it will not look in the hall and in the bedroom. A corridor, a kitchen or a bathroom with a toilet – this is its area of application in residential buildings or apartments.
- Rack ceiling of all stripes and types. Basically, these are aluminum or mirror systems, the purpose of which, again, is reduced to their use in the bathroom, toilet, kitchen and corridor.
- Cassette ceilings, among which we can mention such systems as grilyato or the same Armstrong, which is considered an office option. Grilyato looks great, but it also has some limitations – it is suitable for spacious and high rooms, but not for small apartments. Alternatively, you can view its combination with other ceiling systems – for example, it goes well with drywall.
- Foam ceiling tiles. Option, as they say, is cheap and cheerful. Although who knows, there is also a high-quality and, most importantly, attractive-looking foam plastic ceiling tile on sale, by installing which you can easily solve the issue of sealing joints and decorating the ceiling.
In general, there are options, and, as you already understood, it is not necessary to look for all kinds of mixtures for sealing joints between floor slabs. By the way, about the last, special mixtures for sealing joints in ceilings, of which so many have appeared recently, one can only say one thing – a waste of money and time. Not in the sense that they are ineffective – they do not mind. It’s just that ordinary tile adhesive is not much inferior to them, but it costs several times cheaper – in addition, the technology of their use is practically no different from that described above.

She needs to cover everything and everyone – each applied layer must be primed.
