Once you’ve tasted it, you won’t notice how this recipe quickly turns into a weekly drink. The bonus is that it is so simple and easy to do.

Phytochemicals make apples a real brain food, nourishing neurons and increasing their activity. Red-skinned apples contain a pigment called anthocyanins, which are partly responsible for the red color and have anti-obesity properties, as well as promoting weight loss by speeding up digestion.

Drink recipe


• 3 cups unsweetened apple juice
• 4 cinnamon sticks
• 2-3 slices of orange
• 6-8 whole carnations
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
• 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

This drink is a mug of real comfort in inclement weather.


• Place the apple juice in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
• Add cinnamon sticks.
• Press the cloves onto the orange slices and add to the pan along with the cardamom and nutmeg.

Simmer for 20-30 minutes, then remove the cinnamon sticks and oranges from the pan.
Serve immediately.
